Weingut Thorle Riesling Feinherb, Germany

I guess if you’ve got this far you may just be a teeny bit interested in riesling? ! hopefully this means I can skip the lament of the sommelier that so few people are open to the multitudes that this noble grape can express.

This nifty little wine is very casually off-dry, just flirting with the notion and holding open the door for you to join in. It’s a light and playful style like sparkling sunlight on cold water. Lively and salty with a soft tropical palate of papaya, rockmelon and sweet lime. Sometimes the lament of the sommelier puts too much pressure on riesling as something deadly serious to be revered and sipped with the finest supper. Not this little beaut - it is SMASHABLE!! No pretence needed just get it in the glass and tuck in. If only it had a label with skulls on…….

Food wise it’s great with charcuterie and olives, sushi, Thai but equally it is great on its own as an aperitif.
