Cinchona bark, the key ingredient that gives tonic its characteristic bitter taste, is usually substituted in most tonics with a solvent extract: quinine hydrochloride/sulphate. At Bermondsey Mixer Co, Cinchona bark is imported directly from South America and used in its natural form & this is why their products retain a beautiful natural amber hue.
Bermondsey Tonic Syrup is made to be mixed with carbonated/soda water, allowing you to make a tonic water to your own tastes. It can also be used in cocktails to impart a daring kick of cinchona bark bitterness.
But we think Bermondsey tonic syrup really comes into its own when paired with our Missing Link Old Tom Gin to make the perfect hot toddy gin and tonic. 50ml of Missing Link Gin, 25ml of tonic syrup, 150ml of boiling water and a slice of orange. Its the perfect winter warmer; You’ll never give mulled wine another thought.
