Tantaka Txakoli, Spain

This wine is exciting. This wine is SO exciting. The winemaker is a priest and a shepherd. The priest bit puts me in mind of Fleabag and this wine is as exciting, nervy and crazy as that. If you don’t know about Fleabag one google click with let you know how exciting it is.

Those of you familiar with necking Txakoli (of dubious quality but endless fun) in narrow bars off cobbled streets in northern Spain will be expecting an acid bomb. This is the bomb but with a truly vinous, plump palate too. Txakoli as actual wine yet with all the energy and flair of the classic high pour into a thick glass tumbler that you originally think of.

If you aren’t familiar with either of the above then this wine is made from a grape that really only grows in Northern Spain. Pale-gold in colour with lime , birch sap and acacia on the nose. Savoury hints of saffron and fennel are tempered with opulent white peach and honeysuckle. The finish goes on and on. Absolutely dry. Absolutely exciting.
