The Sicilian varieities Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio thrive on the volcanic, mineral abundant soils of Mount Etna and at a nice alitude where the cooler nights help the fruit retain freshness and acidity. The combo of the Nerello brothers is a good partnership, Mascalese being the brooding big brother imparting darker fruits, spice and tannins whilst Cappuccio is more fun-loving, elegant and perfumed. Intelligent wine ageing, 50% in barriques for 6 months followed by 4 months in large oak casks and finally 6 months in bottle, combines the two Nerellos together in luscious harmony.
