Alella is one of the smallest DO’s in Spain and enjoys a dual Mediterranean and continental climate. It’s proximity to the sea allows this but also puts on a different kind of pressure. Alella is very much in the commuter belt for Barcelona and as a result property / land prices are sky high. What this means for producers is that they have to be 100% committed and 100% on their game otherwise sell up and take the money! The Pujol-Busquets Guilléns are 100%. it’s a true family affair bringing together historic Cava production and a biodynamic, holistic view of the future to preserve and enhance what generations before them have worked for across Spain.
Should we both medically and morally be allowed once more fill the streets of Barcelona to bursting point and you need a release from her nighttime grip you can hop on a commuter train from Placa Catalunya to Alella for about 30 minutes. Then it’s a short taxi ride up to their fabulous tasting room in the Serralada de Marina Natural Park. The family are beyond welcoming and the site and story they are creating so worth a visit.
