Verdeca is a little known varietal (grape) that grows primarily and pretty much exclusively in Puglia, the hot southern heel of Italy. A wine like this is made to drink somewhere with a furious hot sun, scorched red earth and stifling nights because it so thirst quenching. Fermented in stainless steel with no oak at any stage it is a surprisingly golden yellow in colour. However once in the glass it is luscious and tropical with lemon-freshness at every sip. A fabulous and more sustainable alternative to Sauvignon Blanc or a more lively version of Chenin Blanc. Either drinker will be happy.
